Healing Through Nourishment: How I Put Lupus Into Remission by Treating Food as Medicine
When I was at my lowest, I was told this was going to be a lifelong disease —that I’d have to live this way forever. The joint pain, the debilitating fatigue, the rashes, the fevers… this was just my new reality. But deep down, I refused to believe that. I knew God was calling me to heal.
At 25 years old, I felt like I was 85. Every morning, I woke up feeling like I had climbed a mountain in my sleep. My immune system was at war with itself 24/7, attacking both unhealthy and healthy cells. Simple tasks became impossible—I couldn’t even open a water bottle or put toothpaste on my toothbrush without help. Some days, my husband had to carry me to the bathroom because my body wouldn’t move on its own. I was trapped in a body that felt like it was giving up on me, and yet, I wasn’t ready to give up on myself.
The Turning Point
After months of misdiagnoses, gaslighting, and medical dead ends, I took matters into my own hands. I started researching everything I could about lupus, inflammation, and holistic healing. That’s when I discovered the power of over-nourishing my body—flooding it with the nutrients it desperately needed while cutting out inflammatory foods that were making my symptoms worse.
But let me be real: I wasn’t about to sit around chewing through a pound of raw greens every day. No way. So, I did the next best thing… I blended it, baby! 🥤
I committed to drinking nutrient-dense green smoothies all day long, packing my body with the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants it needed to heal. I swapped out processed, inflammatory foods for whole, plant-based nutrition, focusing on hydration, gut health, and nourishment at every meal.
“Wow, that's a lot of greens!”
Picture me at the grocery store checkout with 20 bags of greens piled high in my cart. The looks and questions were priceless:
“Wow, that’s a lot of greens!”
“Are you feeding an army?”
“Do you own a restaurant?”
At first, I laughed. Then, I used those moments as an opportunity to share my story. It felt good knowing that I was making these choices for my health and that I could inspire others along the way.
A Slow but Powerful Transformation
Healing wasn’t overnight. It wasn’t linear. Some days were harder than others. But every green smoothie, every nourishing meal, and every intentional choice added up. My symptoms slowly faded. My energy came back. The rashes healed. The pain eased. My body, which had once been in constant crisis, started to feel like home again.
Doctors once told me I’d never have kids because of lupus—that pregnancy would be too dangerous for both me and the baby. Today, I’m a proud mother of two healthy boys. I’m living proof that the body can heal when we give it what it needs.
If You’re Struggling, Know This…
I don’t share my journey because I think healing is easy or because I believe one diet can fix everything. I share it because I know what it’s like to feel hopeless, to be told there’s no way out, to wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again.
If you’re struggling with your health, no matter how overwhelming it feels, remember this: healing isn’t linear, but every small step counts. Begin by nourishing your body, and over time, you may start to feel the difference. 🌿✨
